No swimming pigs but still worth the drive! I wish we could have seen Aquarena Springs back in its heyday. It’s a shadow of its former self of swimming pigs, underwater mermaids and sky gondolas over the boardwalk. Now it’s perhaps more educational than theme park, but Aquarena Springs is still a fun little stop [...]

To celebrate our anniversary, hubby and I made this into a family affair and took the kids to the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio. We had previously stayed here with friends, just an overnighter when our friend, a frequent flyer at the resort, received discounted rates. The experience was memorable, [...]

Armed with our Living Social deals for the Capital of Texas Zoo, my friends and I headed out towards Bastrop Cedar Creek one weekend. I half expected Capital of Texas Zoo to be like the Austin Zoo, more animal rescue/sanctuary than traditional zoo, but I was wrong on all accounts. I was pleasantly surprised at [...]

Hubby and I were in the mood for some BBQ, and if we’re going to have Q, we’re willing to drive for the good stuff. We decided on Black’s in Lockhart. For those of you transplants from elsewhere, BBQ in Texas is not the same thing as grilling food. Mixing up the two makes us [...]

Over the weekend, our family went with some friends to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls, taking the scenic 1431 route out there. Our kids love pumpkin and fall festivals, and the weather could not have been more cooperative. We arrived shortly after 10 am, and about half of the parking spaces were already occupied. [...]

The Exotic Resort Zoo is located in Johnson City, about an hour outside of Austin, and is 137 acres dedicated to protecting endangered species. This is another fantastic day trip from Austin for families who love animals, up close and personal. A couple of weekends ago when it was all too windy and cold, our family [...]

It’s not a true summer in Austin without a trip out to one of the area lakes! Thankfully you don’t have to be one of the lucky folk who owns a boat in order to enjoy a day on the water. There are plenty of boat rental places around. They maintain the boats, they fuel the boats… you just give them a little money in exchange for some quality time in the sun!
