GIVEAWAY: Family Membership to The Blanton Art Museum

It’s been too long!  I blame it on having to prepare and administer students for the TAKS test, but we’re back with another giveaway.  (By the way, look for more giveaways to come this summer.)

We’re giving away the Groupon deal from today, a one year family membership to The Blanton Museum of Art plus two general public tickets to B Scene, the first Friday of each month.  The winner must activate the membership before 8/7/11, which just means that you need to go to the museum for the first time before that date, and the membership expires one year after activation.  Enter for your own cultural enrichment or gift this membership to someone!  Either way, we want to support local art establishments!

To enter: Leave a comment below.  Describe your favorite piece of artwork that your child has produced.

Comment entries will be taken until midnight this Mother’s Day (May 8, 2011).

A winner will be randomly selected from the entries.  Good luck!

I love all my daughters artwork, but especially a beautiful card she made me last Mothers Day!

The series of about 40 monsters that look almost exactly alike, but if you asked the artist each one gets its own unique description.

My favorite was a piece that E did. Her name written and each letter turned into a separate smiley personalized letter. Above each letter was a rainbow unibrow. Then, she turned the whole of the picture into one giant smiley with the letters representing the facial features and threw a giant rainbow arch over the entire thing. I took that rainbow to be hair, but she said “no” it was an eyebrow. Awesomeness.

I love the artwork my son drew when he was making circles. He covered the whole page with circles and called that piece, “eggs!”.

  5. I asked myself this question before the Christmas holidays and I couldn’t decide on a favorite, so instead, I chose 9 of my favorite pieces of art she created, made them into a 16×20 photo collage with her full name, the year, and framed it the photo print. It looks like something that should be in a children’s museum.

I think one of my favorites is from her Disney Princess days. She was around 4 years old and drew Ariel. She is 10 now and likes to look at the artwork I’ve kept. It makes her laugh!

My little one is only a year but my favorite by far is my Valentine’s Day card he made at school!

For her 6th birthday my daughter was so excited to receive an easel and a number of canvases. She took hours painting a portrait of characters from her favorite show “Growing Up Creepy”

My girls created a “mommy world” in chalk outside. They included a mommy time out area so I can get “a calm breath and privacy” Unfortunately they commandeered my perfume to make the mommy time out area smell good and relaxing.

  10. I especially love the My Horse book my big girl made me..although now that I think about it, it might have been a hint hint for summer camp!

My favorite piece of artwork that my daughter made for me was a picture of me pregnant. My belly is transparent and the baby can be seen through the dress! It’s awesome :)

  12. Been meaning to go to the Blanton with my daughter and other things keep coming up, so a membership would prompt us for sure!

My favourite art of hers is when her class did air-dry sculptures based on a conversation of classic masters and she chose Rodin’s The Thinker. She’s only 5 but you could totally tell her little sculpture was based on The Thinker without being told. I actually assumed it was supposed to be something else at first and said to my husband, “Aww, not sure what she made but doesn’t it look like The Thinker?” Then I turned it over and saw that the teacher had written the title on the bottom and I was floored!

What really impressed me was that she’d clearly studied the subject and paid a lot of attention to what she was doing. That’s huge for a five year old.

My daughter was given a pack of crayons and a doodle pad as a birthday favor. On the way home in the car she started drawing/coloring. She made a very colorful piano “pinano” complete with a chair. It had keys of all different colors. We made sure to hang that one up and also were inspired to continually provide her with a roll of paper for her easel and doodle pads to allow her creativity to blossom.
