Rosa’s Cafe Tortilla Factory (Cedar Park)

Right before Christmas, we met our friends at the new Rosa’s Cafe Tortilla Factory in Cedar Park, the new restaurant that just opened in 1890 Ranch. We had never heard of this chain restaurant, though our friend said that she heard it was good so suggested we all go try it. I was expecting a more formal sit-down Tex-Mex restaurant, but Rosa’s Cafe is more like Taco Cabana meets Chuy’s.

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and handed a menu to peruse while we waited in line to order. One line ordered at a counter, and we were in the line with someone who took our order with a hand held device. We were assigned a number and went in search of a table.

The restaurant seats quite a few people. It’s probably the size of a Chili’s. Though it was packed with people, we found a table without any problems to comfortably seat six of us. As we waited for our number to come up on the tv monitor, we filled our own drinks and filled some salsa containers. Our number was called pretty quickly, to be picked up at a counter.

There are a lot of different menu offerings, the standard Tex-Mex fare from enchiladas to tacos to burritos to fajitas. They also have tamales and were handing out flyers about their Christmas tamales. The items can be ordered a la carte so that two enchiladas will only put a $3.99 dent into the pocket, as plates, or as family meals. There is also a kid’s menu.

The food is not too bad. It’s basically a fast casual dining experience. The flour tortillas were really good. (The kids liked watching the tortilla machine.) If you come here expecting Fonda San Miguel, you’ll be disappointed. If you dine with the expectations of Taco Cabana with more food choices, you’ll be just fine. :-) The restaurant was pretty noisy, perfect for families with loud kids. If the kids are way too loud, you can just go through the drive-thru and take the food home or eat on the patio.
