Stubb’s Night Benefiting Local Austin Preemie

AUSTIN, Texas (November 18, 2010) – Shake-off that post-Thanksgiving stupor on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 5 – 8 p.m. with a night of live music at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q, benefiting the family of Austin preemie Thurston Mossholder. Thurston was delivered by an emergency C-section at 27-weeks, after doctors discovered that he was not getting the nutrients or oxygen from the placenta that he needed to thrive. Weighing only 1 lb. 4 oz. at birth, Thurston has spent the last eight months in the NICU. Given the Mossholder family’s unforeseen financial burdens, Sony Online Entertainment is sponsoring the night of live music at Stubb’s, featuring Jerry Lewis and the News, a band composed of local musicians. Audience members will have the opportunity to get on stage and sing along, karaoke-style, to numerous songs.

Typically, NICU babies are home by the time they reach their original due date, but Thurston has required extra time and care in the hospital due to chronic lung disease and his need for high levels of oxygen. His extended stay has led to his sister having to start day care; previously Donna was home with her but now she spends a large portion of each day at the hospital. Other financial difficulties include medical procedures and tests not covered by insurance, gas to cover the frequent 30-mile round-trip drives to and from the hospital, as well as the physical and occupational therapies Thurston will need when he finally gets out of the NICU.

Donna’s local mom’s group, the O’mamas, is holding an online auction to benefit the family, which kicks off the night of the Stubb’s event. Nov. 28 through Dec. 12, bidders can visit www.biddingforgood.com/thurston to find handmade craft items and toys, yoga classes, massage sessions, computer assistance, collectibles, photography studio sessions
and more, or just to donate to his care.

Stubb’s Bar-B-Q is located at 801 Red River in Austin. Purchase tickets in advance for $10 per person at www.biddingforgood.com/thurston or at the door for $15 per
person.
