Promise Pizza (Round Rock)

After months of following Promise Pizza’s tweets from the day they opened, I have been meaning to come here with my family, and finally…we made it.
Promise Pizza stands out from most pizza parlors because, in Promise Pizza’s own words, “…caters to those who are looking for an awesome tasting organic, all natural pizza with USDA certified organic toppings and all natural meats with no preservatives or hormones!” Each time that I mention any organic restaurant, hubby cringes a little bit as he still remembers me dragging him to a place in South Austin (that shall remain nameless) where he had himself a less than stellar dish. So when I tried again, asking hubby to come with me and the kids for some organic pizza, he refused. In his mind, pizza should be an occasional indulgence so bring on the “bad stuff.”
The kids and I got impatient.
We drove out to the Promise (Pizza) land on our own.
There before my organics-loving self were three Smart cars for delivering pizza. Very nice indeed.

The kids and I headed inside. We placed our order at the counter, where I noticed next to the cash register was a soda fountain machine dispensing only pure cane sugar drinks. The dining area is not terribly large, but the tables and seats were comfortably far enough apart from others that if the place were crowded, it wouldn’t be a horribly tight squeeze unless the entire restaurant was mobbed. It’s about the size of most Jamba Juice, but lunch time midweek, we didn’t have to deal with crowds.
The kids stood on chairs, up against the plexiglass to watch “the pizza man” make their pizzas. My daughter insisted that we order enough pizza to take home to share with Daddy so we watched the pizza man put together a regular crust cheese pizza (10″ medium, $4.99), a whole wheat crust mushroom and spinach pizza (10″ medium, $4.99 + $2 extra toppings). We also got a side of Farmer’s Market salad for extra fiber grins.

The pizzas were done in about 10-15 minutes, and the kids impatiently waited for the cheese to cool off. They dug right in. There were no complaints. They didn’t flinch or make any strange gestures that the pizza tasted funky. They liked the regular crust pizza so much that they even asked to try a bite of the pizza with the “green stuff.” To my delight, my toddler actually liked the whole wheat crust pizza with the “green stuff” more. He abandoned his cheese pizza. My daughter said she liked the tomato sauce because it tasted sweet, which it does have a hint of sweetness to it. (She does not like tangy sauce.)

I’ve had whole wheat crust pizza elsewhere, and it has a tendency to be dry, crumbly, and sometimes cardboard like, but not here. We saved a few slices of each kind to take home, and even hubby had to admit that the pizza was good (even cold, from the fridge). The crusts held up. Next time, we’ll test try the vegan and gluten-free crusts.
We definitely would come back to Promise Pizza. For homemade, handmade organic pizza, it was not expensive at all. For the same price as buying a frozen organic Amy’s Kitchen pizza, I’d rather have freshly made organic pizza.
The only downside to Promise Pizza is that we don’t live in Round Rock so it is a haul to get there. Promise Pizza, if you see this, would you come to northwest Austin and open one closer to me? Thanks! I would appreciate it.

PS: I recently saw a tweet that Texas Jumping Bean serves Promise Pizza at birthday parties. That’s awesome. We love Texas Jumping Bean too.

Can’t wait to check it out!
Mmm, sounds yummy!
The girls and I (and my mom) did lunch at Promise one weekend. I was sad to see not many folks there, as the pizza was yum! And yay for cane sugar soda!
Miss O doesn’t really eat pizza, and once Bean got a hold of the cinnamon-sugar twists I ordered for desert, I had a hard time getting her back to the pizza. Miss O actually spent her whole time pawning bits of crust off me and then going to sit on the floor by the window with her topless dolly. I should send you a pic of her and the dolly looking out the window
I second the ‘come to NW Austin’ request. Or better yet, Cedar Park.
YUM!!
My husband and I went to Promise Pizza for a rare date night tonight. It was well worth the drive! I especially enjoyed the soda:)
I especially like the little extra things they do. For example the Autism Speaks drive where they gave a 5% discount and 5% donated to an Autism charity (don’t remember the name right now), the pizza does taste good. My wife commented that when you walk in, it smells like pizza, but it doesn’t have that heavy, greasy smell to it (or something like that). It also appears they took some pizza to the AngelHeart Children’s Shelter recently and were asking on their facebook for more suggestions for them to surprise.
There is a Promise Pizza in the Great Hills area: 10225 Research Blvd. #110, Austin – (512) 345-7492
