CurlyQ Cuties, customizable monsters – We have a WINNER!

A month of thanks giving: I am thankful that even though my children act like little monsters sometimes, they are more lovable than not.

CurlyQ Cuties are the handmade creations from Austin area mama Stephanie Estrin, who began selling her plush monsters on etsy.com before launching her own e-store.  The first time that I came across CurlyQ Cuties Monsters was back when I was researching Ugly Dolls and similar products for inventory at my family’s gift shop, and I remember thinking how clever that these monsters were with the ability to customize a monster.  Simply pop online, select the features of the monster, place the order, and wait for the monster to arrive at the door.  Pretty simple!

My kids and I test tried the process recently.  The four year old was quite particular about how she wanted her monster doll, picking and choosing (and re-choosing) every feature.  The 1.5 year old surprisingly had a lot to say as Big Sister chose her monster.  The toddler would point at a set of eyes, laugh until he snorted, and declare one set of eyes “Funny!”  He would do the same when we changed the screen to select the tummy embellishment, the mouth, etc.  I laughed so hard watching the baby do this that I let him order a monster too, and the process is so self explanatory that even a 1.5 year old could participate.

packagingWe received the monsters in a box, neatly packaged and oh-so-timely.  The monsters were exactly as my children created online, and my kids love them.  Those who are familiar with Ugly Dolls, the CurlyQ Cuties are not quite as squishy soft.  These have more stuffing, and that means that they will be sturdier over time as we all know kid’s dolls go into the washing machine many times.  The monster is mostly made of fleece with some embellishments made of felt, and fleece is awesome for minor water repellant.  (My kiddo tested his out by feeding his monster some water from his sippy cup, and the monster came out unscathed and dry.)  I was quite pleased that the monsters were well sewn with no loose threads anywhere.

These monsters really are adorable, and getting to pick and choose the monster parts is half of the fun.  We did not embroider our monsters, though that was an option for an additional fee.  Curly Q Cuties also offers a customizable “Tooth Fairy Pillow.”  Orders that are placed prior to December 10 will be made and shipped out in time before Christmas.
