Sugarbakers Bake Shop in Cedar Park

Sugarbakers is a welcome addition to this little shopping strip near Cedar Park High School, taking over the former Wildflower Bakery. My kids and I drove past here one day, and we noticed that the iights were turned on so of course we stopped to see if Wildflower had reopened. What we found instead was Sugarbakers, selling “normal size” cupcakes at a reasonable price $1.95.
On our first stop, we grabbed a bag of the Confetti Corn ($1.50), which is the popcorn variant of the holiday favorite “White Trash” dessert with Chex cereal, and my preschooler guarded this bag with her life. We kept this away from the little guy because of the peanuts, but that didn’t stop him from screaming “Poppy!” (his word for popcorn). My kids also test tried an un-iced sugar cookie that tasted more like a butter shortbread which neither kid particularly cared for, but I liked that it wasn’t terribly sweet. This cookie would have been awesome with a cup of tea. We picked up a “Honey Sunshine Bun” (cake, honey, and cinnamon with a sweet glaze) and the “Secret Agent” (a white cupcake that tastes like a brownie). The Secret Agent was the new flavor of the day. The cakes were moist, not overly sweet, and just the right size and price.
We came back for a second visit, about two weeks later, and what a difference already in this short time. Sugarbakers had more unusual flavors to offer and cookies. My toddler is a sucker for oatmeal raisin cookies, and these were fantastic. They were chewy and not overly sweet either. I picked up a pink frosted cookie for my princess of pink, and she took a couple of bites, declaring it too sweet. She passed on the cookie for a bite of the new flavor introduced that day, a spiced cake with caramel topping. It was like eating a caramel apple flavored cupcake, complete with the stick, and this cupcake got the kid’s thumbs up. We gave the 24 Karat (carrot cake) cupcake to my brother-in-law, and his opinion of the cupcake, “Really good!”
Sugarbakers is inventive with their flavors, and their prices are awesome. Their cupcakes are not quite as “toothy” as the Cupprimo’s which I prefer, but that doesn’t detract from this being a bakery for some tasty, affordable treats that are obviously kid-friendly (and not so waist friendly). The husband and wife owners are passionate about their baked goods and personable to customers. One owner said that the top selling cupcake is the “Ding Dang” which is a Devil’s food chocolate cake with marshmallow fluff and chocolate ganache icing.
Sugarbakers also make custom birthday cakes, with prices that are not too far off from the sheet cakes at HEB’s bakery.

Thanks for the review! My daughter Rachel has declared that she now wants to be a baker when she grows up, and noticed the ‘Bakery’ sign for Sugarbakers. She also declared that she’ll work there when she grows up. So, we have been meaning to drop in and try it out…now we definitely will!
I love having great local options that are family owned.
The Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake poster is genius! Love it.
