Mambo Berry, frozen yogurt and wholesome goodness from a trailer

mamboberry-trailer

Mambo Berry was voted the “Best Tasting Frozen Yogurt” by Fooding Blog.com so says the hand scrawled sign above the trailer window.  I see a sign like that, and it becomes a challenge.  Oh, reaallllly?  We had ordered more than enough food at Mighty Cone, but this sign at the Mambo Berry trailer two over from Mighty Cone was mocking me.  Now I had to find out about said frozen yogurt.  Mambo Berry has two flavors: original tart, green tea.   You can swirl those together.

Green tea?  Yes, please.

greenteafroyoI ordered the green tea froyo without any toppings.  If this really is the best tasting frozen yogurt, I did not think that Captain Crunch should barge in with his high fructose corn syrup and rain on my health conscious parade.  Of all the frozen yogurt places that my kids and I have tried around town, I don’t believe that green tea has been an option at most places.  Besides, I love green tea, especially green tea ice cream and green tea ice cream inside mochi.  Nom nom.

I thought that I died and went to green tea heaven.  That really was a good frozen yogurt, but because I had to eat this in the heat, it melted faster than eating at an air conditioned froyo shop.  Hubby took a bite.  I believe his exact words were, “How can anyone make ice cream taste that bad?”  Say, what?  Ice cream?  The man also does not appreciate green tea without mint and loads of sugar, so I am going to discount his opinion.  My older daughter refused to try it on the account that the froyo was green.   Our little guy was more preoccupied with his Mighty Cone fries to care.  I was more than happy to devour the green tea froyo by myself.

mushroomchipotletamalesMambo Berry actually serves more than just frozen yogurt.  They have breakfast tacos from Taco Deli, fresh fruit smoothies, no-egg tofu salad sandwich, and they have vegan, gluten free tamales.  Seriously, I felt like this was a challenge again.  Vegan and gluten-free…”I’ll take 3 sweet potato pecan tamales please.”  Mambo Berry had sold out of those tamales, and it was maybe 11:30 am.  I ordered 3 chipotle mushroom tamales to go instead.  These tamales had an awesome smokey flavor with just a bit of heat, and they were delicious.  My 18 month old son and I gobbled these up the next day at lunch so there weren’t any left for anyone else to sample.

Check this off as another delicious Austin trailer, only this one serves more hippy-dippy goodness than most that we have tried.
