Hey Cupcake!

After our recent dinner at Boat House Grill, we walked over to Hey Cupcake! (near 620 and 2222) to grab some dessert. Just like the Hey Cupcake! on South Congress, this cupcake bakery is also a shiny silver Airstream trailer with a gigantic pink frosted cupcake on top.
Along with the regular menu, the sandwich board menu indicated vegan cupcakes. Interesting! I do like vegan brownies from Mr. Natural and Wacky cake, but the Hey Cupcake! guy said that they did not have any at this location. (I’m not surprised. All the hippie-dippy offerings are always south and east of town.)
We settled on a Michael Jackson (chocolate bottom with cream cheese top) and a Snowcap (chocolate bottom with vanilla top). Our kids were all settled to eat the cupcakes on the pink picnic tables near the trailer, but the bees made a beeline towards the us. Our daughter was screaming as she’s terrified of bees, and our son was screaming because my husband whisked him away from the cupcake as he was mid-bite. I’m sure the two girls eating their cupcakes a couple of picnic tables away had a good laugh.
We brought the cupcakes home and enjoyed them without bees around. Yum, and yum. We have tried the Red Velvet and 24 Carrot ones before, and double yum to those too…the red velvet especially. These cupcakes are big enough for two people, and they sure are a treat.
Kudos Hey Cupcake! for bringing some of that trailer hipness out of South Austin to the northwest part of town!
