Gingersnaps Kids is a children’s boutique that really is in an unexpected location. Amidst all the chain stores and franchises near IKEA is this unique shop that started over five years ago as an online children’s boutique.

My first impression of walking into this store is that this is a place that I would come if I needed something gorgeous for my daughter to wear for special occasions or if I needed to give a special gift to someone.  There were fluffy petticoat skirts and tutus everywhere.  The matching tops, bottoms, and hair accessories are all tasteful, romantic, and decadent.  When I say romantic, I don’t mean in that lovey dovey way but in the sense where everything in the store is selected so that the boutique itself evokes emotions.  I would expect to find a boutique like this in Westlake, SoCo, or even 2nd Street but not in the strip mall near IKEA.  It truly was an unexpected surprise.  The clothing, shoe, and toy lines (Indygo, Cach Cach, Haute Baby to name just a few) are what you would find in specialty stores, Nordstroms, Neimans and the sizes range from newborn to teenage.

Though 75% of the store is for girls it seems, what they do have for boys is beyond the typical striped, plaid, embroidered with a ball/dog/car clothing. My son quickly found himself a rolling monster truck backpack that was too adorable not to come home with us. He wheeled that thing around the store. It’s hard to find a toddler sized rolling pack that isn’t made of cheap plastic with a character printed on it, and now he will have his own little bag for our weekend trips. I picked up a second one as a gift for a friend’s son.

The store has a tucked away space where kids can watch a movie while parents shop in peace.  They also have a photo studio in a separate large room.  The price for the Christmas Photo Session is $49, which includes the sitting fee and 2 5×7′s photos.  I spoke with the owner’s mother who helped design the boutique, and she mentioned that they would be hosting special events in the studio space.  For example, the 1st Sunday in December, Gingersnaps Kids is hosting a ticketed event that is a Christmas Tea/Fashion Show.

Though they are pricier than Children’s Place, there is no comparison really with the kinds of things that you find in a store like Gingersnaps Kids.  These are not mass produced items.  I think that the owner has done a fantastic job in picking items which are unique, well-made, and certainly beautiful.  I also like that the store is filled with shelf after shelf of gorgeous things to look at because most specialty boutiques seem to have only a few items per season.
