Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids (Cedar Park)

Our 16 month-old was in need of a haircut and so it seemed quite fortuitous when we received a $3.00 off coupon from Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids which just had their grand opening August 22nd. This was only his second haircut in a salon so I was ready to fight the inevitable squirmies.
The first thing I noticed when stepping into the salon was that this is definitely more than your average kids’ salon. They have plenty of Melissa and Doug items and other fun toys for sale, and they have two party areas located in the rear of the salon perfect for a little princess glamour party with a separate eating area. The stylist informed me that they are still in the process of decorating the “boys’” party area but have already accumulated some pirate costumes. The “girls’” party area is complete with an elevated stage, princess costumes and lighted vanities.
Even though we arrived 10 minutes prior to opening (and without an appointment) the owner was nice enough to let us in which allowed our little boy the opportunity to play and get comfortable which I think went a long way in keeping him calm during the haircut. The stylist was also fantastic with him and took the time to make sure he was ok before taking out the scissors. He especially enjoyed the Ferrari car chair that had a functioning car horn and gas pedal which kept him fully entertained while the stylist quickly cut his hair. While they did have television sets and a collection of DVD’s for each chair our 16 month-old has yet to fully appreciate tv, but I know my 4 year old would have loved it. To top off the experience, our little boy got a balloon, a tattoo and a jumbo set of chalks. He was all smiles. (The stylist informed me that they do mini-cures on the little girls which I’m sure my little girl would enjoy in another year.) The haircut cost $18.95 before the coupon and was certainly well worth it.

Tracy Burnett is the best stylist you will ever find when it comes to giving small kids a haircut. My experience with her is that there is none better. She is also a very highly professional stylist when it comes to adult cuts and is the best when it comes to color and perms, etc. If you go to Sharkey’s Cuts For Kids at Lakeline Plaza, be sure to ask for Tracy Burnett, you will not be disappointed.
