Cedar Rock Train
We had heard many great things about the Cedar Rock train so we decided to give it a shot on a Saturday morning. We arrived shortly after 10 am to find a short line of people waiting for the train to arrive, but luckily we were able to get on the first trip. The train was a great treat for the kids. They loved the look of it and I greatly appreciated the covered seats (particlularly on a hot summer Texas day). The ride took 10-15 minutes. It was just the perfect amount of time for a 4 year old and a one year old. We also discovered that the train can be rented out for private parties (as there was one after our ride). The price per person is $2.50 and kiddos under 1 are free. (Edited to add: The train currently only runs on weekends.)
On the ride we were able to get a better look at the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park. In the very front of the park there is a fishing pond (that was busy this particular morning), and throughout the park there were different sporting fields including soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a football field encircled by a running track. Some of the fields also had stand seating.

After our train ride we drove back to the front of the park to play of the playground because there is a distance from the Cedar Rock train to the playground situated in the front of the park. I liked that the playscape was enjoyable for both our kids. The playscape was low enough for our one year old to climb on and had ample room for me to join him. The slides were hot to the touch so we just made sure that the kids didn’t slide down the ones in the direct sun, but other than that, we had a great time. There was also a covered picnic area complete with barbecue pits (that you cannot currently use because of the burn ban) and water fountains. We did leave a bit early as there was a birthday party being held there, but we will definitely go again.
