Austin’s Pizza in Westlake

Could there be any better restaurant for a kid than a place with a playground and pizza?  Could there be anything better to a parent that the pizza restaurant’s playground doesn’t involve tokens?  Probably not.  Austin’s Pizza in Westlake Hills has a wooden playscape, and even during the height of the afternoon, part of the playscape had shade from the mature trees. Though we usually order Austin’s Pizza for delivery or pickup, it is nice that they have a location as family-friendly as this one.

The restaurant may be hard to find for those who are unfamiliar with the area.  It is tucked in the far back corner of the strip mall.  The nice thing about the location is that the playground is away from the main road (Bee Caves).  It is also fenced so kids cannot dart out into the parking lot unless they scale the low wooden fence, and if they do decide to make a break for it, the kids would have to run past the relatively large outdoor seating area.

The pizza crust is much better than chain pizza places but not as crispy thin as true New York style pizza.  We like the sauce, a good balance of tang and sweet.  They make a killer BBQ chicken pizza, better than California Pizza Kitchen’s in my opinion.  If you like goat cheese, the “Pesto A Go-Goat” (basil pesto sauce, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes & goat cheese) is awesome.  I actually like Austin’s Pizza better when it is day old and eaten cold for breakfast…brings back so many memories from back in the day.

Austin’s Pizza is local.  Even better yet…wait for it…this location is BYOB.  Seriously.  Awesome.
