Waterloo Ice House (Avery Ranch location)

Each time that we have been here, it has been as a group of moms with little ones in tow. In other words, the runts outnumbered the giants. The fact that the wait staff always served us with a smile in spite of the spilled drinks, broken crayons, shredded napkins, spilled food, and not to mention a group of moms with squirming children attempting to figure out restaurant math of who owes what. THAT is Texas-friendly, my friends.
Anytime that we have been there during the weekday before 11:30 am, there is never any wait. Ever. Never. It’s nice actually. I do have to say though that if you show up during peak times, just beware that there are big kids who love the play structure adjacent to the outdoor seating, and they typically have no regard for the little ones.

For a while there, we were so bummed to find out that the playscape was closed off. Whatever the reason, the playscape is back opened, and we couldn’t be happier. What could be better than sitting out on a covered patio with cold beer ice tea in hand and watching the kids play just a few feet away. The play area is well-kempt, and the play structure is new and solidly constructed. The climbing is a bit steep for the under 3 set without some supervision, but boy howdy, when my kid turned 3, you better believe I told her to scoot her bottom over there by herself so I could scarf down the rest of her fries while she wasn’t looking.
Seriously though, you should keep an eye on a younger child playing here because the playscape is not in a fenced in area. There’s a concrete walkway that leads straight out to the parking lot.
